Lappa Valley Cornwall Review

Lappa Valley Cornwall Review

During our recent trip to Cornwall we were kindly invited along to visit Lappa Valley Steam Railway and Leisure Park. We attended as a group with 4 adults and two toddlers (both aged one).

It was a fun filled day for everyone! When you arrive the first stop is the ticket office! I loved the attention to detail and cute little railway references everywhere.

Lappa Valley Ticket Office

Once you have your ticket you can chill out in the play area whilst you wait for your train. It was great they had this area as it gave the kids somewhere to run off some steam whilst they waited. Trains depart every 40 mins so you are never waiting too long.

The Steam Train

The train arrived and there was plenty of room for everyone to get on. They even have a separate carriage for pushchairs. The boys were so excited to be on the train, they could sit or stand up and look out as we travelled through gorgeous Cornish woodlands. When you arrive there are stunning views across the canoeing lake.

Lunch

Our first stop was the café for lunch! They have a good selection of yummy light lunches and even little lunch bags for children! We got Zac one of the lunch bags for £4.95 which contained a roll with choice of fillings, crisps, fruit snack, cookie, low sugar fruit juice and crayons! The bag itself is covered in activities to keep little minds occupied. It was great that we could keep whatever Zac left and take it with us for later in the day.

Lappa Valley Lunch

In the lunch area there is a little play area with mechanical animals. These are probably the only thing in the whole park which isn’t included in the price. They are coin operated and are £1.

Canoes and Pedalos

After lunch we went straight over to the canoeing lake. They had canoes and pedalos which you could take out for as long as you want free of charge. It was great that we could take Zac on these, it was a completely new experience for him and he loved steering the pedalo!

Lappa Valley PedaloAfter the pedalos the boys went on the mini bike and ride-along track. There was lots of different little bikes out on the track that they could just go and play with. Then they had a go on the swings – this was such a cool swing with lots of seatts that all spin around like a mini ride!

The Trains

Next we went to ride one of the other trains at the park.

There are 3 trains in total:

  • The main train which takes you from the ticket office to the activity park
  • The woodland railway which is a miniature train that rides around a track
  • The Newlyn Branch Line which takes you further into the park.

We took the Newlyn Branch Lane to the picnic and paddle area. When you first arrived there is a large area of grass with play equipment and football goals. The boys loved being able to run around here and play (and the dads liked being able to play football).

Picnic and Paddle

Once they were all played out we walked round to the small stream where the boys could paddle. This was such a great part of the day as Zac loves splashing in the water!

Woodland Walk

After this we took the woodland walk back to the main area. This was such a lovely scenic walk back and was completely shaded which was nice as it was such a hot day.

Once back at the main area we took a quick trip into the gift shop to pick up some souvenirs from our day and then caught the last train back to the car park.

There is honestly so much to do at the park that we couldn’t even fit it all in! It really is a whole day out for the family and so much to do for all ages. Some other activities which are great for older children are:

  • Trampolines
  • Crazy golf
  • Toddler Maze

If you are heading to Cornwall then I would definitely recommend visiting Lappa Valley, It was probably one of the best days out of our trip!

Sounds like such a great day out. Cornwall is such a beautiful place too although I haven’t been since I was a child myself x
